PUCA

Puca's are primeval creatures of Celtic folklore. They are shape-changers that protect the humankind from demonic water-spirits and other evil forces. They are strong, fast and have quick reflexes.

They are considered to be bringers of both good and bad fortune. Their presence indicates danger in that area. The creatures are said to change their shapes in form of various animals such as feline animals, goats, dogs, rabbits, hares, but are mainly horses.

According to the Book of Druidism, Puca's were created Manannan, God of Sea. After Balor, God of Destruction, was defeated by his grandson, Lugh, the King of Tuatha De Danann, in the second battle of Mag Tuired, he created his own water demon army called the Kelpies. Manannan turned Lugh's Aenbharr, into a shape-changer. He could walk both on water and on land, to keep humans away from water, where the Kelpies were their strongest.

Puca's ascend to the true form on their 18th birthday, on Lughnasadh. They pray to the Celtic Gods and Goddesses, and also Lugh. Aenbharr was the first Puca.

Puca's have a hierarchal community.

  1.  Elders: They are law-makers and part of the Council.

  2. Cara [ka.ra]: They stay among humans and learn their ways.

  3. Laochra [lock.ra]: They are warriors and protectors. They help and rescue humans that are in danger.

Protective Order:

This is an order consisting of Laochra and the humans they are meant to protect. The Laoch that are protecting the human is called Cosantoir [ko.san.to.eer]. And the human that is protected is called Cosanta [ko.san.tey].

When they don't transform in their true form, they are skilled marksman and trained combat fighter. They wield a holy blade called the Naofa blade. It was bestowed to the first Laoch, Carney, by Macha, Goddess of Horses and Sovereignty. The blade is made of a rare diamond that emits different colors depending on the power of the Puca who is wielding it. The hilt of knife is made out of black silver and has intricate designs carved on it with silver. A taaffeite gem is embedded on the pommel with a Celtic Cross carved on top of it.

The taaffeite gem is said to radiate the power of the heavens; pure magic. Previously, chalcedony was used but they soon realized the taaffeite utilizes more magic than chalcedony.
