Celtic Festivals

IMBOLC

  • This festival marks the beginning of Spring. 

  • It falls between winter solstice and spring solstice. 

  • Celebrated on 1st February. 

  • Brigid's crosses are made and hung outside every house as the Celtics believe it brings good fortune. 

BELTANE

  • It marks the beginning of Summer. 

  • It falls between the spring solstice and summer solstice.

  • Celebrated on 1st May.

  • People have bonfires and gatherings. 

  • Flowers such as primrose, rowan and hawthorn are placed at the doorways and windows.

LUGHNASADH

  • It marks the beginning of Autumn. 

  • It falls between the summer solstice and autumn solstice.

  • Celebrated on 1st August.

  • People hold a fair, where they play games and do matchmaking.

  • Before the fair, the people throw a parade. They dance and play music. 

SAMHAIN

  • It marks the end of the harvest season. 

  • It falls between the autumn solstice and winter solstice.

  • Celebrated from 31st October to 1st November. 

  • It's said to be liminal time, when the border between the human world and the Otherworld could be easily be crossed.
