BALOR

Balor is the King of a race of demonic beings called Formories and is also the God of Destruction.

When he was young, he spied on his father's druids while they were concocting a potion of death. The fumes were so deadly, one of Balor's eyes turned poisonous, giving him the power of destruction. His father asked his Druids to cure his son, but they told him there wasn't any. Instead, he was told to keep his eye closed. Because of which, his eyelid became so heavy that it took 10 men to open it. His eyelid had 7 layers, each causing destruction upon opening.

He was prophesied that his grandson would defeat him. Hence, he locked away his only daughter, Ethniu [en.yu], in a glass tower. He, then, stole a cow of abundance from a Cian [keen]. Cian, with the help of druidess, Birog [bee.rog], and sea-god, Manannan Mac Lir [mann.an.awn], went after his cow and found Ethniu. Cian and Ethniu conceived three children, two of which were drowned by Balor and the surviving child was fostered by Manannan.

The child grew up to be Lugh, the King of Tuatha De Danann. For 7 years he trained for the battle against his grandfather. He led his people to the Second Battle of Mag Tuired [moy.turra].

Ogma [og.muh], a Tuatha De Danann deity, disarmed Balor. In anger, Balor killed Nuada, the previous King of Tuatha De Danann. Taking this opportunity, Lugh shot his spear, Areadbhair, at Balor's evil eye and defeated him.

Balor was known for his Goliath size, so, when he fell, twenty seven of his people in his army died underneath him.

According to legends, people think he was slain but only few knew he was imprisoned under the sea. Location was unknown, except to those who buried him. As soon as they buried him, they cut off their tongues.
